I See Signs All The Time

wowwwwww. i guess i totally forgot about this thing didn't i?

everything has just been too crazy to write. i never stop getting the music though, funny thing is, dec/jan, i probably got close to 2,000 songs. hahahaha. and yet i still don't post interestingly enough.
well i hope everyone had a greattt holiday season. mine was beyond superb. before i get to the music world, i guess i'll talk a bit about myself.
i'm still on track to graduate in around 3 1/2 years (3.6666...?) and many interesting things have happened.
because i actually started trying in school (who knew i'm actually pretty damn good at the whole studying thing) my grades have made me capable of having a lot of choices for grad school. i'm still very much planning on leaving california...i just can't stand it here. except for maybe the bay area, i would love to move there, and thats actually a possibility...
lately, and in the future i've been doing a lot of non profit work, which is really what i want to do with my life. for spring break, i'm going to amsterdam to work for the salvation army for 12 days. so thats going to be uhhhmazinggg.
then this summer, i have three opportunities. the original plan was to go to ghana to work with the needy and to study the culture, but because of the horrific economic conditions, the plane ticket is sooooo expensive, so we'll see.
the second thing i might do, is i was accepted to go to san fran for the summer, to work for greenpeace, which is my faveeeeee non profit. so that would be amazing as well.
or the thirdddd, i was accepted to go to spain for a month to teach a spanish family english and live with them and stuff. that sounds like sooo much fun, out of any place in europe, i'd like to go there most, so idk. i may just wait until after i graduate...
so i'm very fortunate to be in a field where there are a lot of opportunities after i graduate. i find it hilarious how much i have changed, i used to be in college for whatever would make me the most money, but i realize i'm happiest when i put other people first. i could be making 10 grand a year, i don't care, as long as i have a place to live and food in my mouth. i've developed from one of the most materialistic people i know, to hating material things. thats why the whole nordstrom thing really didn't work out for me, i can't stand to be around people like that. its greediness like that, and self absorbed people like that, that ruined the American economy and drove this country into the ground...
as far as grad school goes, hawaii is still the choice, as they have my major, and the department is supposed to be great, but the University of British Columbia looks justtt like me, and is beyonddd beautiful. I'm also looking at Boston, Maine, and Rhode Island. but i think i may need to be near a major city to prevent the horrible culture shock i'm going to have. (new yorkkk??)
i'm thinking in the fall i'll visit the prospects with the parentals to see whats going on. i may be thinking about a doctorate program as well, but thats sooooo much school!!
anyways, thats my life. i'm still so motivated and so inspired, still helping out at church, which has renewed me, and saved me in a way as well.
for those of you who didn't know, i was in a horrific car accident a few weeks ago. it was raining, my car hydroplaned, i lost control and flew over a 100 foot embankment, flipping the car 5 times. miraculously, all i sustained was a concussion. truly remarkable. everyone says i should be dead, and i absolutely agree. but someone wanted me to live, which made me more then ever realize that i'm destined to do great things...

anyways....let's get to music. COACHELLA!!! is looking to be spectacular this year. once again, i will be going all 3 days, as i've come to the realization that no matter where i am in the world, i will ALWAYS fly home for coachella weekend. funny, last year i knew sooooo much of the music, but this year, in all honesty, even before the lineup was announced, i know around 95 or so out of the 102 bands playing. i don't even have to get any music, just listen to what i have alreadyyyy.
friday is looking to be the best day all around, as friday didn't even compare to the other two days last year. sir paul will be wonderful, and oh yeah, my 2nd god, morrissey should be great as well, despite seeing him already twice. i may even skip him if other stuff is playing, i guess it depends if he is going to play any smiths or classics.
as far as who i'm most excited to see, i would have to say girl talk on friday. you know that is going to be a sweaty, sexual mess, and i'm soooo psyched. i just hope he doesn't play at the same time as beirut, because i love zach condon soooooo much!! fleet foxes and hercules should be amazing on saturday. despite friday on paper looking like the best day, i think i'll enjoy saturday the most, because its mainly electronic. so i can stay in the tents dancing all day. yeeeahhhhhh.
its funny how much my musical taste changes. a couple weeks ago, all i was listening to were things like the beautiful sweaty euro disco, but after my accident, what i like has suddenly changed. maybe due to the fact i now drive like a grandma, so the slow music soothes me. but seriously, all i have been listening to is radiohead, beirut, and i have been OBSESSED with nick drake. i love love loveee him. no homo.
i've gotten a lot of feedback on my top 20 albums of the year, funny how an actual label contacted me to take down my downloads. it scared me, yet made me feel so special at the same time, haha. i'm glad to see bands like cut copy and fleet foxes get the recognition they deserve, but as far as 2009 goes, this year is already turning out to be a juggernaut. musically, its been brilliant, and is only going to get better, so prepare yourselfff.
so for music todayyyy. i'm just going to post a bunch of songs since a post from me has become so rare. So i think i'll prob post six or so either remixes or covers. first is a decent hot chip cover of transmission from my godsssss of joy division. besides the smiths, no band has come close to touching me as much as joy division, i loveeeee them, well, what's left of them. nexttt is an okay cover of one of my fave love songs ever, its rogue wave covering "maps" from the yyy's. nexttt is a really really funny cute cover of "the fresh prince of bel air," but done acoustically, and rather beautifully. the last three are all remixes, the first two from discotech who has totally tore up the year so far. the remixes here are of "everlong," from the foos, and the second is a spectacular remix of "roxanne" from the police. And the lasttt is just a fun mash up of kanye and modest mouse. really well put together.
anyways. thats all for now. i'll try and post before spring break, but it is term paper writing season, so we'll see. thug lifeee.

hot chip - transmission (joy division cover)
rogue wave - maps (yeah yeah yeah's cover)
kay pettigrew - fresh prince of bel air
foo fighters - everlong (discotech remix)
the police - roxanne (discotech remix)
floating paranoia (modest mouse v. kanye)

p.s. how do i tell her i love her? I'm sooo not used to this...
